Legal Counsel - Privacy

Job Summary
Provide practical privacy law advice to the Australian business, develop and implement privacy policies, procedures, and training, and conduct privacy impact assessments and regular audits. Investigate and respond to privacy incidents while collaborating with Risk and Data teams and Privacy Champions across the organization. Stay current with privacy laws and regulations to implement required changes and liaise with overseas privacy functions as needed. This role requires a lawyer with 4-5 years of experience in the privacy space and an unrestricted Australian practising certificate. Full-time Australian working rights are necessary, and successful candidates must complete a National Police Record check.
Required Qualifications
- 4-5 PQE+ experience as a lawyer
- strong experience in the privacy space
- Unrestricted Australian practising certificate
- Experience in contract drafting and negotiation
- Sound knowledge of recent and upcoming privacy-related reforms
- Ability to create privacy training material
- Ability to manage privacy-related compliance activities
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with privacy audits, gap analysis and follow-up, together with privacy tools and practices
- National Police Record check

Desired Qualifications
- Experience with data mapping tools or consent management platforms
- Exposure to international jurisdictions, international privacy compliance and frameworks (particularly GDPR and CCPA), artificial intelligence and technology businesses
