Legal Counsel

Job Summary
Lead, structure, draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents. Provide proactive guidance on legal and contractual risks to project and bid teams. Provide timely legal advice regarding all legal issues affecting the company, including compliance with federal, provincial, and local laws and all contractual obligations. Conduct legal research to monitor legal developments and changes to legislation. Provide legal advice and guidance on corporate, employment, and labour relation matters. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize or avoid contractual disputes. Manage and coordinate insurance policy renewals, project specific insurance, and claims. Advise on dispute resolution strategies including negotiation, litigation, adjudication, arbitration and construction liens and collaborate with external legal counsel as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor degree and be in good standing with the Law Society of Manitoba
- Minimum of one year of legal experience
- Familiarity with The Builders’ Lien Act (Manitoba) including Prompt Payment, Ontario Construction Act, Canadian Construction Association contract documents
- Experience in alternative dispute resolution and legal negotiations
- Strong negotiation, research, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in coordinating with multiple stakeholders
