Job Summary
Provide strategic legal advice to business units on laws, regulations, and company policies. Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements while managing product safety, regulatory filings, and compliance programs. Monitor internal compliance activities, privacy law matters including impact assessments, and emerging regulatory risks. Support the development of internal policies and assist General Counsel as needed. Work Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM in a hybrid arrangement at the North York office.
Required Qualifications
- LL.B./J.D.
- member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- minimum of five years of relevant work experience as in-house counsel, in a law firm or a combination of both
- Strong knowledge and experience with corporate/commercial matters
- Strong technical skills
- sound business judgment
- Strong drafting skills
- Strong negotiation skills
- Strong time-management skills
- Strong communication skills
- An ability to work independently, handling complex matters from beginning to end with minimal supervision
- An ability to build collaborative relationships and work cross-functionally with legal and business partners
- An ability to provide concise, practical legal advice, while explaining complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders
- It is the candidate's sole responsibility to obtain any work permits/visas or other authorizations which may be required to legally work in Canada prior to commencing employment
