Legal Counsel - Commodity and oil trading

Job Summary
Draft, review, and negotiate international trading contracts across commodities and oil sectors while building the full contractual chain for suppliers, buyers, and logistics providers. Manage claims and disputes regarding quality, delivery, and delays by preparing documentation and supporting arbitration or litigation processes. Identify legal and commercial risks to propose mitigation strategies, ensuring compliance with sanctions, regulatory frameworks, and applicable laws across jurisdictions. Act as a legal advisor to trading, operations, and finance teams to provide commercially driven advice and support internal policy development. Fluently speak Russian and English, with 4-8 years of experience in commodity or oil trading law.
Required Qualifications
- Law degree
- Qualified lawyer
- 4-8+ years of legal experience
- Experience in: Commodity trading (grains, agri, metals) and/or oil trading companies
- Law firms advising trading / oil & gas clients
- Experience with international contracts and cross-border transactions
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills
- Experience in claims and dispute resolution
- Understanding of: Incoterms, Trading structures and supply chains
- Fluent Russian and English
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with GAFTA / FOSFA contracts (for agri commodities)
- Knowledge of sanctions / compliance frameworks (OFAC, price cap)
- Exposure to Russian-speaking markets
