Legal Counsel – Commercial, Privacy & Compliance

Job Summary
Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements while providing practical legal advice to business, product, technology, and executive teams on day-to-day and strategic matters. Advise on privacy, consumer protection, and digital marketing compliance, including TCPA and data privacy requirements. Monitor regulatory developments, translate them into business guidance, and review consumer-facing experiences for compliance. Manage litigation, demand letters, and disputes, conduct due diligence on partners and vendors, and support corporate governance and employment matters. Use AI and legal technology to support contract review, research, and knowledge management, helping develop templates and workflows that balance efficiency with human judgment. Identify opportunities to continuously improve the Legal & Compliance function's operations. This fully in-office role in Walnut Creek, CA, reports to the SVP of Legal & Compliance within a lean team building an AI-native function.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant legal experience, including law firm and/or in-house experience
- Law degree and active membership in good standing in at least one applicable U.S. or Canadian jurisdiction
- Strong commercial contract drafting and negotiation experience
- Excellent legal research, drafting, analytical, negotiation, and issue-spotting skills
- Ability to independently manage matters, prioritize competing demands, and exercise sound judgment regarding escalation
- Practical, solutions-oriented approach and ability to communicate legal risks clearly to non-legal stakeholders
- High degree of discretion and comfort handling sensitive and confidential matters
- Strong interest in generative AI, legal technology, and technology-enabled ways of working
- Curiosity, adaptability, and willingness to incorporate AI into everyday legal work
- Must be able to work in a fully in-office role in Walnut Creek, CA
- Must be located in Walnut Creek, CA (not accepting applicants outside of this area)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: privacy and data protection, advertising and marketing law, consumer protection, technology, corporate governance, employment, or commercial disputes
- For Canada-based candidates, experience supporting U.S. businesses or working with U.S. legal and regulatory requirements
- Prior experience with specific AI platforms
