Job Summary
Legal Assistant II in the Civil Division, Family Support Office, provides technical clerical support and serves as a primary contact for attorneys, law enforcement, and court/community agencies. Responsibilities include preparing, filing, and serving legal documents; organizing case files; conducting basic legal research; gathering information for defendants/respondents; handling inquiries from the public; coordinating depositions/hearings; scheduling DNA specimen collection when needed; and supporting attorneys in navigating regulations and court procedures. Requires strong technical skills with case management systems and Microsoft Office, excellent written and verbal communication, independent work ability, and the ability to interact with diverse individuals.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Associate degree in legal assistant or paralegal studies, or legal-related studies, and/or Paralegal certificate from an accredited program.
- Or, four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a legal-related field, which include two years in a Legal Assistant I level position; or any combination of education and relevant experience which demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
- Must be able to type 60 words per minute.
- Current Washington State Driver's license, or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation, may be required.
