Job Summary
Legal Assistant supporting a team of lawyers/partners in commercial insurance and civil litigation. Hybrid work model with minimum 2 days per week onsite at the Toronto office. Responsibilities include managing lawyers’ calendars, scheduling court appearances and deadlines, drafting standard litigation pleadings and court documents, compiling records, transcribing letters, editing correspondence, reviewing documents for procedural compliance, opening/closing files, organizing client and lawyer files, handling invoicing and billing, coordinating meetings and travel, data entry for billing/time entries, and assisting with conflict checks and other administrative tasks. Requires a Legal Assistant Diploma/Certificate, 5–10 years of relevant experience, proficiency in Word/Outlook/Office Suite and Caselines, knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure, and strong written/spoken English.
Required Qualifications
- Legal Assistant Diploma/Certificate from a Community College or the equivalent
- Minimum of five (5) to ten (10) years of relevant experience as a Legal Assistant, ideally in commercial insurance coverage and civil litigation
- Impeccable English grammar with excellent verbal/written communication and proofreading skills
- Knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure
- Ability to file court documents on the Ontario portal
- Intermediate or advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook & Office Suite, as well as other systems used in a law firm
- Working knowledge of Caselines
- Ability to handle dictations efficiently
- Attention to detail and proactive case management
- Team-spirit, collaboration and professional demeanor
