Job Summary
Legal Assistant in the Business Law practice supporting lawyers with administrative and practice management duties. Responsibilities include preparing, editing, and managing legal documents; handling file openings and conflict searches; proofreading and preparing blackline comparisons; maintaining databases; coordinating conferences, calendars, and meetings; arranging boardrooms and AV equipment; processing dockets, cheque requisitions, wire transfers, and trust documentation; assisting with monthly billing; coordinating with other assistants and support services; providing back-up support as needed. Requires post-secondary education in legal administration or equivalent, 2+ years of legal professional services experience, strong MS Office skills (Outlook, Word), knowledge of document management and civil procedure, excellent communication and client service, ability to multitask and prioritize, and a proactive, self-directed work style. Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education with a focus on legal administration or equivalent
- 2+ years of relevant experience within a legal professional services environment
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office Suite including: Outlook and Word
- Knowledge of document management practices
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure, court forms, scheduling, and filings
- Ability to organize, multi-task, and prioritize appropriately
- Demonstrates excellent client service and ability to anticipate client needs
- Strong problem solving skills, flexibility, and posses the ability to work effectively with others
- Knowledge of law firm monthly billing process
- Strong work ethic, demonstrates initiative, self-directed, and holds an advanced capability for task completion with minimal supervision
