Job Summary
Provide legal and policy analysis to support advocacy on family law and nationality rights across Africa, applying deep knowledge of regional and international human rights frameworks (notably the Maputo Protocol). Conduct country-specific and thematic research to inform advocacy strategies, contribute to knowledge products (reports, briefs, training materials), and support design and delivery of advocacy initiatives. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including Africa Family Law Network and nationality rights coalitions, to coordinate meetings, trainings, and campaigns; monitor legal and political developments; and translate complex legal issues into clear advocacy materials. Requires advanced legal research, policy advocacy, and the ability to mentor junior staff; travel domestically and internationally; fluency in English with French preferred; willingness to engage across cross-cultural contexts and partner networks.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in law, international law, or closely related discipline
- 6+ years of progressively responsible experience in gender justice, human rights, or legal advocacy
- Strong program and project management skills with budgeting and donor reporting experience
- Fluency in English; French preferred; regional language skills advantageous
- Ability to travel internationally and domestically to support regional teams and partners
- Experience mentoring staff or interns and working with coalitions or networks focused on women’s rights in Africa
