Job Summary
Lead on provision of legal advice and support across a broad range of higher education regulatory and corporate matters, including data protection and information law, consumer protection, charity law, human rights, and public law; manage a varied caseload with potential for judicial review proceedings, statutory appeals, and regulatory investigations; oversee commissioning external legal support and lead on internal guidance and CPD-aligned training for the legal team; collaborate with internal policy colleagues and external stakeholders to deliver regulatory objectives; develop expertise in the Higher Education and Research Act 2017 and the OfS’s regulatory framework; engage with senior leadership to understand objectives and priorities and contribute to decision-making and enforcement activities.
Required Qualifications
- Qualified solicitor or barrister
- Strong interest in public law and regulatory issues
- Experience in at least two of: Litigation cases involving judicial review and/or regulatory appeals; Interpretation of regulatory rules such as license conditions; Interpretation and application of sector-specific legislation relating to a regulatory body; Investigation and enforcement in a regulatory context
