Legal Administrative Specialist II

Job Summary

Input case assignments into computer following Legal Files docketing work procedures, including opening cases, initial calendaring, client letters, and scanning discovery. Screen each case for conflicts, request case credits, and open cases to distribute to assigned lawyers the same day. Carefully monitor assignments with the Division Supervisor, process extra credits and debits daily, and maintain the Master Calendar. Provide daily, monthly, and yearly reports to supervisors, verify monthly reports from DPD, and close client case files. Perform telephone coverage as needed to obtain criminal history information and handle other duties as assigned. Duration: 2-5 weeks. Location: Kent, WA (training in Seattle). Pay: $22.40 per hour.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of general office procedures, equipment and administration
  • Familiarity with legal office administration and criminal justice system
  • Knowledge of legal procedures and court rules
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and Outlook), document management, and internet search engines
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism handling sensitive matters
  • Demonstrated communication skills and the ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions
  • Initiative and accountability in work products and service, and the ability to follow-through on issues to completion
  • Excellent customer service skills including skill in communicating with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Skill in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds including victims, witnesses, clients and other court personnel in a tactful, diplomatic, patient and professional manner, who may be angry and/or difficult either in person and via telephone
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and accounting
  • Keyboarding proficiency and accuracy
  • Initiative and accountability skills for work product or service; must be dependable, and willing to assist co-workers as needed
  • Ability to prioritize workload, work under pressure with tight timelines and changing priorities, and simultaneously work on multiple assignments
  • Successful experience working and making decisions in a team environment, and functioning as a team member
  • Ability to lift/move up to 20 pounds
  • Fluency in a foreign language a plus
  • Spanish
  • A valid Washington State driver's license
  • The ability to pass a Washington State Patrol Background Check
  • Location: Kent, WA ( 1st day of training will be in Seattle the rest of the assignment in Kent)
  • Duration: 2-5 weeks

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Superior Court Management Information System (SCOMIS), Judicial Information System (JIS), and Electronic Case Records (ECR) preferred
