Job Summary
Non-exempt Legal Administrative Assistant (LAA) performing full legal administrative duties for attorneys under minimal supervision. Responsibilities include processing new client/matter requests, client bills, time reports and expense reports; word processing of drafts, revisions and final documents, proofreading and redlining; handling mail, filing and distribution; coordinating meetings, managing attorney calendars, and transcribing correspondence. Provides overflow assistance to summer associates and visiting attorneys; may coordinate courier services as needed. Requires strong organizational, multitasking, and communication skills; proficiency with MS Office and legal-specific software tools (NetDocuments, Interaction, Chrome River, Emburse, Intapp preferred). Demonstrates independent judgment and discretion, and knowledge of firm procedures and precedents. Overtime may be required. Required Qualifications
- Three or more years of experience working in a mid- or large-sized law firm
- Working knowledge of general office procedures and familiarity with legal terminology related to general legal concepts and assignment areas
- Working knowledge and experience with the Firm’s technology and applications (NetDocuments, Interaction, Chrome River, Emburse, Intapp strongly preferred)
- Prior experience handling expense reports, client bills, and conflict-checking forms; experience with Interaction or other CRM software strongly preferred
- Prior experience supporting more than one attorney
- Advanced word processing/computer skills with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Adobe
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Strong phone etiquette, attention to detail and follow-through
- Knowledge of legal filing and record-keeping practices
- Highly organized with ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Strong customer service and team collaboration skills
- High school diploma or equivalent; two years of college or equivalent work experience preferred
