Job Summary

Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, tailoring approaches to individual learning styles. Collaborate with teachers to develop strategies for classroom support and assist in creating inclusive learning environments. Monitor student progress, maintain accurate documentation, and participate in Individual Education Plans and behavior support plans. Facilitate social skills groups, implement de-escalation techniques, and liaise with parents and external agencies. Attend team meetings and training sessions to contribute to professional development. Full-time role with Level 3 qualification required; experience with secondary SEMH students essential.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Psychology, or Youth Work)
  • Proven experience working with secondary school students with SEMH needs
  • Strong understanding of SEMH challenges and their impact on learning and behavior
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • Patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in using technology to support learning and record-keeping
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

Desired Qualifications

  • Degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field
  • Additional qualifications in SEMH support or interventions
  • Experience with specific SEMH interventions (e.g., CBT, mindfulness, or art therapy)
  • Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice and relevant educational policies
  • First aid certification
