Job Summary
Provide 1:1 and small group targeted instruction in reading, writing, math, study skills, and academic coaching with a focus on executive functioning; lead meetings with teams and parents to discuss learning styles, diagnoses, test scores, accommodations, and teaching strategies; review psycho-educational evaluations; collaborate with faculty to address student needs with differentiated instruction; develop and deliver comprehensive lesson plans; maintain ongoing communication with faculty and parents; promote an engaging, inclusive learning environment; be flexible and able to transfer between campus areas as needed; participate in professional development and adhere to campus expectations, including background checks and employment eligibility. Salary range prorated for a 12-month, full-time position.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in related field (preferably special education or speech-language pathology)
- Familiarity with Orton-Gillingham or Wilson instructional methods; Associate/Practitioner-level certification for Orton-Gillingham or Level I for Wilson strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success with independent educational plans (IEPs)
- Professional membership in subject-related organizations and/or licensure desired
- At least three years of full-time experience in a rigorous academic setting
- Proficiency in developing, delivering, and assessing comprehensive lesson plans and instruction
- Effective communication skills (oral and written) with students, faculty, staff, and parents
- Knowledge of teaching principles, behavior management, and conflict resolution
- Understanding of age-appropriate academic, social, and behavioral characteristics
- Ability to create an engaging, inclusive learning environment and workplace
- Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Team player and independent contributor
- Dexter Southfield campus environment and transfer between areas in all weather (physical demands)
- Background checks including CORI, SORI, and fingerprinting as employment condition
