Lead Water & Wastewater Operator Ottawa

Job Summary
Provide senior operational oversight for water treatment, distribution, wastewater treatment, and collection systems across Southwestern Ontario operations. Support and guide less experienced operators through technical direction, mentorship, site checks, and operational follow-up. Monitor treatment processes, respond to SCADA alarms, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and process issues. Travel to sites across the region to inspect facilities, verify operating conditions, and support field staff. Complete operational records and regulatory reporting requirements. Participate in on-call coverage and emergency response activities. Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence and both Wastewater and Drinking Water Operator Certifications required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive operational experience in both drinking water and wastewater systems
- Demonstrated experience operating, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining water and wastewater treatment facilities
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and reporting requirements
- Experience with compliance monitoring, process control, laboratory interpretation, and operational reporting
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting aptitude
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently across a large geographic region while maintaining communication with operations leadership and site staff
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence
- Valid Ontario Wastewater Operator Certification
- Valid Ontario Drinking Water Operator Certification (OIT, LSW, Level I, or higher)
