Job Summary
Lead VFX Artist responsible for defining artistic and technical standards for VFX in UE5, guiding a team of artists, and collaborating with design, cinematics, and engineering to deliver visually spectacular, performant, and gameplay-integrated effects. Drive innovation in real-time effects, establish workflows and pipelines for UE5 VFX production, set and maintain performance budgets across platforms, and partner with design to enhance gameplay readability and immersion. Oversee external co-development partners to align with creative vision and production goals. Act as the primary Unreal Engine VFX expert, providing technical guidance and cross-team problem-solving. Requires leadership experience, hands-on execution, and the ability to base at a studio at least 3 days a week.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 7+ years of VFX experience in the games industry
- At least 2 shipped AAA titles
- Expert-level proficiency in Unreal Engine 5 (Niagara, materials, shaders, Lumen)
- Strong portfolio of high-fidelity, real-time UE5 VFX
- Solid understanding of real-time rendering, particle systems, physics, performance constraints
- Proven leadership experience managing and mentoring a VFX team
- Excellent cross-discipline collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills
