Job Summary
Direct on-the-job training for the technician and assistant medical team while advising employees on performance requirements and corrective measures. Provide direction for efficient workflow, assist with onboarding new staff, and manage staff schedules and coverage adjustments. Work on the floor completing veterinary duties including animal restraint, triage, lab sample collection and analysis, diagnostic imaging, nursing care of hospitalized cases, medication administration, surgical preparation and assistance, anesthetic management, and dental prophylaxis. Communicate treatment plans with clients and maintain accurate patient records. Supervise the team under the Practice Manager's mentorship in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animal-related hazards.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed Veterinary Technician
- 3+ years veterinary experience preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and motivational skills
- Ability to direct, guide, and assist a group of individuals
- Desire to teach others to create a well-rounded team
- Comprehensive knowledge of veterinary procedures and hospital operations
- Knowledge of spelling and meaning of commonly used veterinary terminology (e.g., terms of anatomy, physiology, diseases, tests, etc.) to accurately enter specific information into patient records
- Expertise in safe and low-stress animal restraint techniques
- Proficiency in various sample collection methods, including blood, urine, fecal, and skin specimens
- Proficiency in dental prophylaxis and dental radiographs
- Experience in anesthesia administration and surgical monitoring
- Experience in radiographic positioning and image capture
- Self-starter with the desire to continue to advance one's knowledge and skillset
- Ability to show unbiased judgment when managing people and make fair and just recommendations regarding personnel issues and/or disciplinary action
- Ability to receive constructive feedback in a professional manner to maintain hospital efficiency
- Exceptional customer service skills and ability to communicate precisely
