Job Summary
Lead Traffic Engineer responsible for guiding Ohio traffic projects from Columbus or Cleveland offices, providing technical analysis for transportation infrastructure and land development projects, reviewing traffic engineering software (Synchro, TransModeler, etc.), collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, leading business development activities (outreach, pursuit identification, technical proposals), mentoring staff, interfacing with clients, regulatory agencies, and DOT authorities, and staying current with traffic engineering practices; occasional travel as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline
- 7+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior traffic design experience
- Engineer license required
- Safety studies experience/skillset
- Knowledge of traffic engineering tools, including Highway Capacity Manual/Highway Capacity Software, Synchro/SimTraffic, TransModeler, and other equivalent modeling and analysis tools
- Knowledge of traffic control device design, including developing plans, specifications and estimates for construction projects
- Working knowledge of Federal Highway Administration, AASHTO, state DOT, and other guidelines (MUTCD, AASHTO Green Book, NACTO Urban Street Design Guide)
- Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD is desirable
- Ability to establish partnerships with internal/external project management, client representatives, government agencies, and other organizations
- Positive attitude and people skills for a team environment
- Ability to manage staff to deliver projects on deadlines
- Ability to train and mentor younger staff
- Ability to market the skills of the traffic and transportation engineering practice
- Ability to work in a corporate environment and communicate with a wide range of professionals
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Occasional travel may be required
