Lead Technician

Job Summary

Lead structured cabling installations by reading floorplans, terminating fiber and copper, and performing system testing and troubleshooting. Proactively lead teams of 3-5 technicians and installers, providing on-site training and mentoring to ensure task completion. Oversee jobsite organization, basic housekeeping, and safety compliance while maintaining professional standards in both office and construction environments. This role requires minimal to frequent overnight travel depending on the region and involves working days, nights, and weekends as project needs dictate.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Read, write and understand English
  • Able to distinguish color codes
  • Minimum 2 - 5 years work experience in Structured Cabling or related industry/construction experience
  • Ability to understand and effectively explain every aspect of the structured cabling system including pathways, spaces, horizontal cabling, backbone copper, backbone fiber optic, cross- and inter-connections, and testing
  • Ability to choose the correct tool and methodology for a given task
  • Ability to listen carefully to and follow instructions
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning from senior team members
  • Willingness to work days, nights and weekends as project requires
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, exercise efficient time management at the jobsite
  • Demonstrate accountability for safety, quality, and productivity
  • Self-motivated with excellent work ethic
  • Must be able to operate equipment such as scissor lifts, telehandlers, boom lifts, and UTVs (buggies) if required to do so
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Must regularly carry and climb ladders to 20 feet
  • Must be able to operate equipment such as scissor lifts, telehandlers, boom lifts, and UTVs (buggies) if required to do so
  • Must be able to work in tight and confined spaces
  • Must be able and willing to travel as required by E2
  • Must be available for minimal overnight travel (5%) in certain regions
  • Must be available for frequent (50%+) overnight and extended out-of-town travel in others
  • Must be able to effectively lead and coach others
  • Must be able to adequately train Technicians and Installers
  • Must be able to assist in developing Technicians
  • Must be able to proactively oversee and lead jobsite organization and basic housekeeping maintenance
  • Must be able to maintain professional appearance and demeanor in both internal and customer relations
  • Must be able to excel in technical tasks such as testing and troubleshooting
  • Must be proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, etc.)
  • Must be able to exhibit and maintain professional appearance and behavior
  • Must be able to meet deadlines

  • BICSI Installer 2 Copper
  • BICSI Installer 2 Fiber
  • BICSI Certified Technician (must be earned within 12 months in role)
