Job Summary
The Lead Teacher designs and implements a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate curriculum for young children, creates a safe, nurturing learning environment, oversees daily classroom routines, and guides a team of assistant teachers and volunteers. Responsibilities include supervising children throughout the school day, applying approved curriculum and instructional strategies, maintaining lesson plans and records, communicating student progress to parents, and pursuing ongoing professional development to enhance teaching practices. The role emphasizes strong interpersonal skills, collaboration with staff and families, and adherence to district and state licensing requirements. The teacher must be able to manage classroom activities, support a positive learning environment, and ensure health and safety across the cohort of students. The position reports to the principal and is classified (non-exempt) with responsibilities across multiple agency locations as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or higher
- CDA (Child Development Associate) OR one year of Proficiency in Child Development or Childcare (PCD) OR Two-year Associate Degree in Childcare/Education (ACC) OR 60 college credit hours and experience working with young children and families (preferred)
- Background check satisfactory to the Board of Education
