Job Summary
Lead a teaching team in a preschool classroom, planning and implementing a safe, developmentally appropriate learning environment that promotes kindergarten readiness skills. Establish a hazard-free space using daily health and safety checklists, screen and assess children's development regularly, and model nutrition and social skills during mealtime. Supervise associate teachers, program aides, substitutes, and volunteers while coordinating parent involvement through home visits and conferences. Maintain child records, submit progress reports, and assist with kitchen and bus aide duties as needed. Attend required professional development, cluster meetings, and licensing training to ensure compliance with Head Start standards and Michigan regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Early Childhood Education
- Bachelor's and coursework equal to a major in Early Childhood Education
- experience teaching preschool
- knowledge and experience in the philosophy and practices of Head Start
- knowledge and experience in early childhood education
- knowledge and experience in developmentally appropriate practice
- willingness and ability to obtain Basic First Aid and CPR Certification
- willingness and ability to maintain certification
- Acceptable tuberculosis screening results
- drug screening results
- a clear criminal records check
- an initial health exam
- emotional maturity
- willingness to cooperate with the aims of the program
- respect for children and adults
- flexibility
- patience
- good personal hygiene
- physical and mental health which does not interfere with responsibilities
- education or experience in collaborating with parents in the education of their children
- willingness to obtain Administrative training within six months of employment
- current and former Head Start employees, students, and parents
