Job Summary

Lead the unit by integrating children, families, and community services through daily classroom instruction, home visits, and active supervision of all enrolled children. Develop and implement NAEYC-aligned activities while monitoring compliance with anti-bias principles and developmentally appropriate practices. Supervise assistant teachers and volunteers, providing training, evaluation, and support to build team goals. Coordinate monthly Child Review Team meetings, facilitate IEP meetings, and collaborate with specialists on health, nutrition, and behavioral concerns. Conduct at least two parent conferences and two home visits annually, while tracking attendance, screenings, and individualized child profiles. Ensure all staff utilize positive guidance methods and adhere to safety protocols.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree
  • Baccalaureate degree preferred in Early Childhood Education or closely related field
  • Experience teaching preschool age children
  • Evidence of continuing commitment to personal growth
  • Theory and practice in early childhood education
  • Theory and practice in family focused intervention strategies
  • Implementing evidence-based curriculum
  • Classroom experience with preschool children
  • Family focused intervention strategies
  • Supervising paraprofessional staff and/or volunteers providing health information and referral
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of management practices and supervision experience
  • Complete criminal record check from Department of Health & Welfare's Criminal History Unit prior to consideration for hire

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field
  • Thorough knowledge of HighScope curriculum and Head Start/Early Head Start
  • Performance Standards
  • Familiarity with NAEYC accreditation requirements
  • Demonstrated active role in public organizational development
  • Child Development Associate credential (CDA)
  • Fluency in Sign Language, Spanish, or other language
  • Current or former Head Start/Early Head Start parent
