Job Summary
Own the full recruitment lifecycle for engineering and technical roles, sourcing, screening, scheduling, and closing top-tier talent in the competitive Toronto market. Act as the gatekeeper for talent density by calibrating requirements with technical leadership, designing rigorous interview loops, and facilitating debriefs to ensure consistent, high-quality hiring decisions. Implement and own the underlying recruiting infrastructure, managing ATS systems, tracking metrics, and forecasting pipelines to treat hiring as an instrumented system. Build a comprehensive warm network of backend and data engineers while crafting personalized outbound messaging and navigating complex offer situations to articulate early-stage equity value. Report directly to the CEO and partner closely with the CTO to scale the technical hiring engine from the ground up.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of in-house technical recruiting experience
- Significant experience in early-stage, high-growth startup environments
- Ability to differentiate between someone who just uses data tools and someone who genuinely builds large-scale distributed systems
- Ability to hold credible, engaging conversations with Staff-level engineers
- Documented track record of winning top-tier engineering talent away from competing offers in competitive tech hubs
- Fluency in startup equity mechanics
- Ability to run pipeline like a sales funnel
- Knowledge of conversion numbers and ability to build predictable hiring forecasts
- Comfort working without a massive recruiting ops team
- Ability to leverage AI and modern tooling in workflow to automate administration
- Strong existing network within the Toronto tech and engineering ecosystem
