Job Summary
Lead Substation Electrical Engineer responsible for leading engineering efforts for substation projects (115kV+ GIS/open air; 35kV systems) for DoD and related federal projects. Key duties include reviewing design documents, developing single/three-line diagrams, grounding, protection/relaying, lighting, SCADA, and climate control; performing complex electrical calculations (load, short-circuit, arc flash, voltage drop, cable sizing); preparing contract documents; coordinating across disciplines; mentoring junior staff; and ensuring compliance with standards. Requires PE license, 10+ years MV distribution/substation experience, and US citizenship. Travel may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
- 10+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience in the design and specification of medium voltage power distribution systems and 15kV through 115kV substations
- Professional Engineering license (PE)
- US citizenship required
- Knowledge of UFCs, UFGSs, FCs, NEC, ANSI/IEEE standards, NFPA standards, ICC standards
- Direct experience as a consultant on DOD projects
- Experience leading and mentoring engineers
- Experience with substation design for multiple projects concurrently
- Strong written and verbal communication; ability to coordinate with subcontractors and clients
