Lead Substation Electrical Engineer

Job Summary
Make design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications for utility substations, relay automation equipment, and associated drawings. Perform calculations using engineering formulas and skills to support complex projects. Provide technical guidance to other engineers and lead multidiscipline teams from full scope estimating and proposals through detailed design to commission and construction support. This Lead Substation Electrical Engineer role requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 7+ years of experience, CFIA professional licensure, and proficiency in substation protection and control design. The position is based in Costa Rica with legal work authorization required. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- ABET-accredited program or equivalent
- CFIA professional licensure
- 7+ years of engineering experience

- Organizational skills
- Proficiency with substation protection and control design
- Knowledge of industry standards
- Capability to review and produce design drawings including one-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel elevations
- Ability to perform AC & DC substation studies
- Knowledge of substation electrical physical apparatus equipment
- Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Authorization to work legally in Costa Rica for any employer
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree
- Knowledge of basic relay settings
- On-site commissioning and/or construction support experience
- Knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)
- Knowledge of Rural Utilities Service (RUS) design guide
- Knowledge of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
- Knowledge of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC)
