Job Summary
Lead surgical instrument decontamination, assembly, and sterilization under department leadership. Operate washer disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, and automatic endoscope reprocessors while ensuring instruments are clean, intact, and accounted for. Serves as shift lead, mentoring new staff, orienting employees, and acting as backup for the department coordinator. Package instrument sets per AAMI standards, run daily sterilizer tests, and document all biological, mechanical, and chemical monitoring data. Manage inventory, order par levels, and perform instrument and scope audits. Answer phones, prepare requisitions, and communicate with vendors and management. Maintain departmental records, follow safety standards, and participate in quality improvement initiatives. Night shift, 80 hours per pay period.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of surgical instrument or instrument technician experience
- Experience in on-boarding, orientation, training and mentorship of new staff to all areas of sterile processing
- IAHCSMM (International Association for Healthcare Material Management) as a Certified Registered Sterile Processing Technician (CRCST) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing Technicians) as a Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification
- Secondary certification through IAHCSMM (International Association for Healthcare Material Management) as a Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) or through CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing Technicians) as a Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist (CSIS) within 90 days of hire or promotion into the position
