Job Summary
Lead SQL Developer responsible for guiding a data-engineering team and shaping an Azure-based data platform. The role combines architectural leadership with hands-on engineering to design, build, and operate data pipelines and lakehouse platforms using Azure Synapse, Spark, Data Factory, Delta Lake, and related technologies. You’ll establish standards, mentor engineers, optimize Spark workloads and Azure SQL performance, improve observability and operational runbooks, and support a hybrid in-office/remote workplace across Montreal, Austin, and Nicosia.
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in data development
- 2+ years experience leading or mentoring technical teams
- 2+ years of hands-on Azure Cloud experience (Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Database, Data Lake Storage Gen2, Delta Lake)
- Hands-on experience with PySpark, Delta Lake/lakehouse architectures, and large-scale data ingestion pipelines
- Strong T-SQL knowledge and relational database design
- Experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT pipelines
- Strong troubleshooting skills in data pipeline and database performance issues
- Experience working with hybrid environments (Azure, on-prem SQL Server)
- Strong communication and leadership skills
