Lead Software Engineer (Typescript/NodeJS)

Job Summary
Take ownership of deliverables by leading and developing a team of software engineers while providing hands-on support through code writing and reviews. Act as a subject matter expert for React, Node.js (NestJS), and TypeScript, advising on design, development, testing, and implementation. Deliver high-quality full-stack solutions through expert coding, tooling, and delivery leadership, owning technical direction for a defined product area. Design secure, observable, and scalable services, APIs, and user experiences by partnering with architects, product, QA, DevOps, and security colleagues. Lead design and planning for Epics, breaking complex work into stories with clear acceptance criteria. Investigate operational issues, lead root cause analysis, and build permanent improvements into team systems. Use metrics, customer feedback, and experimentation to validate assumptions and continuously improve systems while building strong stakeholder relationships across technical and non-technical groups.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
- strong recent hands-on delivery experience
- Deep expertise in React, Node.js (NestJS) and TypeScript
- Experience in designing, building and operating production APIs, services and modern web applications
- Strong understanding of software architecture, secure engineering, authentication, authorisation, scalability and reliability
- Experience with modern ReactJS, REST APIs, SQL or NoSQL databases, cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS, CI/CD such as GitLab CI, observability tools for logging, metrics and tracing
- Strong automated testing experience across unit, integration, contract and end-to-end tests
- Track record of diagnosing production issues and improving system resilience, performance and supportability
- Strong leadership potential, with the desire to mentor others and develop into a people management role over time
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
