Job Summary
Lead Software Engineer for the service mesh platform at Grab, guiding technical direction and execution across the mesh infrastructure. You will oversee architecture and roadmap, lead a team of engineers, mentor staff, and partner with cross-functional teams to deliver a secure, observable, and scalable mesh. Responsibilities include defining multi-year technical strategy for data plane and control plane evolution, reviewing complex mesh infra changes (Istio/Envoy) for reliability and security, managing traffic management, mTLS/identity, observability, and cross-cluster communication, leading incident response and root-cause analysis, and promoting AI-assisted engineering tooling to accelerate velocity. Requires a senior technical leadership profile, onsite in Grab's Singapore office; focus on collaboration, platform thinking, and delivering high-impact platform projects.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 6+ years of software engineering experience
- At least 3 years working on distributed systems, networking, or platform infrastructure
- Deep hands-on expertise with service mesh technologies (Istio, Envoy, Linkerd, Consul, or equivalent)
- Experience with microservices networking (HTTP, TCP/IP, gRPC, TLS/mTLS, load balancing, service discovery)
- Track record leading delivery of complex platform projects across multiple teams
- Proficiency in Go (preferred), Java, or Python; experience with mesh-related open-source projects
- Experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and cloud-native infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability stacks
- Promotion of AI tool adoption in engineering teams
