Job Summary
Lead Software Engineer – Backend Engineer role at JPMorgan Chase in London, UK, focused on delivering cloud-native microservices, secure and scalable backend systems for international consumer banking. Responsibilities include designing end-to-end microservice solutions, applying domain modelling, ensuring test coverage across unit/integration/e2e/performance tests, maintaining zero-downtime releases, optimizing data access patterns, ensuring reliability and operability of mission-critical software, and coaching teammates on coding practices and design principles. Requires hands-on back-end software engineering with Java, cloud technologies and distributed systems, RESTful APIs, messaging frameworks, experience with various data stores, and strong communication. Preference for experience in regulated environments and AWS cloud technologies.
Required Qualifications
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and applied experience
- Recent hands-on professional experience as a back-end software engineer
- Experience in coding in a recent version of the Java programming language
- Experience in designing and implementing effective tests (unit, component, integration, end-to-end, performance, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Experience with cloud technologies and distributed systems, RESTful APIs and web technologies
- Knowledge of messaging frameworks
- Seasoned with operating, supporting and the security of mission critical software applications
- Understanding with different kinds of data stores (including relational data stores)
- Coach other team members on coding practices, design principles, and implementation patterns that lead to high-quality maintainable solutions
- Manage stakeholders and effectively prioritize work across multiple work streams
- Experience in working in a highly regulated environment / industry
- Seasoned with cloud-native microservices architecture
- Proficient with AWS cloud technologies
