Job Summary
Lead Software Developer at Technology Innovation Institute (TII) seeks to lead the development, integration, and delivery of embedded software for autonomous UAV systems. This hands-on technical leadership role combines software architecture, development, system integration, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration, guiding the engineering team to deliver secure, reliable, and high-quality products throughout the lifecycle. Responsibilities include leading design, development, integration, validation of embedded flight software; integrating platform security features and secure deployment; overseeing software development, debugging, code reviews, and system integration; mentoring engineering teams; coordinating platforms bring-up, validation, and release activities; collaborating with hardware, systems, security, test, manufacturing, and DevOps teams; supporting Git workflows and CI/CD; ensuring software quality and compliance with engineering standards; making architecture decisions and representing the software team to stakeholders and customers.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years in embedded software
- 8+ years in flight controller, autopilot, or safety-critical avionics
- Bachelor’s in computer science, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering (Master's/PhD preferred)
- Safety-critical software certifications (DO-178C, ISO 26262)
- Experience with C/C++ for real-time embedded systems
- Experience with Python for tooling and test automation
- Proficiency with RTOS (e.g., NuttX) and embedded OS environments
- Experience with embedded security (ARM TrustZone, OP-TEE, secure boot chains)
- Proficient with Git workflows and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with MAVLink, PX4, and GCS integration
- Strong debugging, code reviews, and system integration skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication; leadership/mentoring experience
- MATLAB or similar tooling for test automation and data analysis
