Lead Software Architect, Battlespace Awareness
$219,000–$290,000 year
On-siteBroomfield, Colorado, United States
Job Summary
Define the architectural vision for large-scale C2 software systems that ingest, fuse, and act on real-time sensor data. Lead the design and implementation of performant, numerics-heavy algorithms in Rust and C++ at production scale, transitioning research prototypes into deployed tactical code. Make high-leverage trade-offs across performance, modularity, and maintainability while mentoring senior engineers and setting coding standards. Engage directly with DoD agencies to ensure successful outcomes for mission-critical needs and troubleshoot complex system issues spanning software, math assumptions, and networking. Contribute to the full software development lifecycle, from prototyping and modeling to field testing and deployment.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of software engineering experience
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Applied/Computational Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Controls/Dynamical Systems, Statistics, or related field
- Expert-level proficiency in modern C++ and/or Rust
- Expert-level proficiency in asynchronous and multithreaded programming (e.g., Tokio for Rust)
- Proven experience architecting large-scale, production-grade codebases in real-time or high-performance environments
- Deep experience writing performant, real-time software with numerics-heavy algorithms
- Strong foundation in applied mathematics: probability theory, linear algebra, optimization, differential equations (ODEs), and statistics
- Experience with CI/CD, unit testing, git version control, and microservices
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
Desired Qualifications
- M.S. or Ph.D. in a technical field
- Dual academic background in software + math
- Domain expertise in target tracking, state estimation, Kalman filters, sensor fusion, or signal processing
- Prior DoD program experience (Army, Air Force, MDA, SCO, Navy)
- Experience with GPU / CUDA kernel development
