Job Summary

Ensure design compliance with NERC CIP requirements, applicable cybersecurity standards (e.g., IEC 62443), and Substation SCADA based on IEC-61850, DNP, and best industry practices. Provide functional design specifications for complex SCADA and Cybersecurity Systems across windfarm, onshore/offshore substations, and O&M centers. Lead project design teams to deliver high-quality products on time and under budget while reviewing vendor designs for optimized, safety-compliant integration. Coordinate SCADA and cybersecurity design with protection, control, and site disciplines; develop FAT and SAT procedures; and prepare engineering estimates for equipment quantities and costs. Communicate with Project Engineering Managers to resolve design impacts on material cost, schedule, and safety.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or associated discipline from an accredited university
  • 7 years' experience in Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in Utility, Renewable and/or Industrial HV & EHV substation's cybersecurity systems design
  • Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time, including international, and must comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) or P.Eng and willingness to serve as the engineer of record or be willing to obtain certification within two years
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada or the US for this opening
  • Must be from the U.S. Department of Energy's List of Generally Authorized Countries (10 CFR Part 810 Appendix A) unless a specific authorization is obtained or unless the candidate is a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident, or protected individual
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada (for Canadian positions)
  • Must complete a background investigation
  • Drug screen requirement (unless role is based in Canada)

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge with NERC-CIP standards and guidelines for Cyber Security (IEC 62443), or NIST
  • Demonstrated knowledge with standard SCADA network architecture (HMIs, Gateways, RTUs) and protocols (OPC, DNP3, etc.) as applied to substation projects
  • Experience in building scalable and highly available distributed networks
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850 based Digital Substations (PRP, HSR, RSTP) and cybersecurity equipment (VPN, Firewall, Router, NIDS, etc.) from various vendors
  • Familiarity with Telecom equipment and standards (MPLS, Multiplexer, WAN, LTE, 4G)
