Job Summary

Ensure design compliance with NERC CIP requirements, applicable cybersecurity standards (e.g., IEC 62443), and Substation SCADA based on IEC-61850, DNP, and best industry practices. Provide functional design specifications for complex SCADA and Cybersecurity Systems, including windfarm, onshore, and offshore substations, and lead the project design team to deliver high-quality products on time and under budget. Review vendor designs to ensure optimized, compliant, and safety-integrated systems, coordinate with protection, control, and site disciplines, and develop FAT and SAT procedures. Prepare engineering estimates, communicate design impacts to Project Engineering, and report risks to project managers. Requires 7+ years in engineering with 5+ years in utility substation cybersecurity design, PE licensure, and 20% travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or associated discipline from an accredited university
  • 7 years' experience in Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in Utility, Renewable and/or Industrial HV & EHV substation's cybersecurity systems design
  • Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time, including international, and must comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) or P.Eng and willingness to serve as the engineer of record or be willing to obtain certification within two years
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada or the US for this opening
  • Must be from the U.S. Department of Energy's List of Generally Authorized Countries (10 CFR Part 810 Appendix A) unless a specific authorization from the U.S. Department of Energy is obtained or unless you are a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident, or protected individual under the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Act
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada and any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation
  • The drug screen requirement in the background check process is not required if the role is based in Canada

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge with NERC-CIP standards and guidelines for Cyber Security (IEC 62443), or NIST
  • Demonstrated knowledge with standard SCADA network architecture (HMIs, Gateways, RTUs) and protocols (OPC, DNP3, etc.) as applied to substation projects
  • Experience in building scalable and highly available distributed networks
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850 based Digital Substations (PRP, HSR, RSTP) and cybersecurity equipment (VPN, Firewall, Router, NIDS, etc.) from various vendors
  • Familiarity with Telecom equipment and standards (MPLS, Multiplexer, WAN, LTE, 4G)
