Job Summary
Lead the NC roadway design team by directing conceptual and preliminary engineering and final design activities, supervising staff, and coordinating with multiple disciplines to deliver complex highway and transportation projects. Responsibilities include preparing Plans, Specifications and Estimates; guiding project tasks and mentoring junior staff; maintaining QA/QC standards; coordinating with DOTs, municipal agencies, and stakeholders; and applying advanced civil engineering techniques across concept to operation phases. Requires a Bachelor's in Engineering, 7+ years of relevant experience, and an NC Professional Engineer license (or ability to obtain within six months). Familiarity with MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer/Geopak is expected, along with strong leadership, communication, and safety posture.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline
- 7+ years of post-education experience in engineering and civil/roadway design
- Professional Engineer License in NC or ability to obtain in six months
- Significant experience leading design teams on DOT and municipal projects (highway, roadway geometric design and calculations, and roadway plan production)
- Proficiency in MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer/Geopak roadway design software
- Developing skills in project and staff management on civil transportation projects
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with engineering and non-engineering audiences
- Self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and provide leadership to junior team members
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Flexibility to meet various schedules and adapt to changing priorities
