Job Summary
Leads the daily management and supervision of the respiratory care staff, both clinically and administratively. Performs clinical duties including patient assessment, ventilator management, diagnostic evaluation and other respiratory care as needed. Acts as an expert clinician who demonstrates a high level of knowledge/expertise, and is a leader/resource to the healthcare team. Organizes department functions, administers therapies as ordered by physicians, ensures accurate pulmonary function testing, educates patients about therapies, and coordinates staffing, supplies, and equipment. Provides orientation and training for new staff, participates in performance improvement, and assists in emergency resuscitation as required, including intubation when approved by policy. Ensures compliance with department policies, infection control measures, and hospital standards, and supports policy updates and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and Respiratory Care Practitioner(RCP) license: Required in CA
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: Required
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): Preferred
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS): Preferred
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Preferred
- Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS): Preferred
- Registered or Certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care: Required
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-RRT) credential or Certified Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-CRT) credential: Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: Required
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent: Preferred
- Master's Degree: Preferred
- Two years' leadership experience: Preferred
- Five years' technical experience with specialized knowledge in PICC, Peds, and/or NICU: Preferred
