Job Summary
As a Lead R&D Metrology Technician at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will develop, execute, and improve measurement methods for lab plasticware and consumables. Key responsibilities include designing test approaches evaluating performance and failure modes, generating reliable decision-ready data, and ensuring products meet specific lab and shipping conditions. Required skills include hands-on experience in supporting product development, ability to interpret technical specifications, strong communication, and proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years hands-on experience supporting product development, sustaining, reliability, or failure investigations for plastics consumables or similar polymer-based products
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and product requirements
- Strong communication skills in both technical and non-technical contexts; strong technical writing skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
- Ability to lift up to 45 lbs and work safely in a laboratory environment
Desired Qualifications
- Training/certifications in metrology, quality, or laboratory calibration practices preferred (e.g., NCSL, ASQ, or equivalent formal training)
- Experience developing and running functional / failure-focused test methods
- Working knowledge of common lab plasticware product types and use environments
- Experience applying disciplined measurement practices: metrological traceability, calibration status control, measurement system analysis (MSA), and fit-for-purpose reporting
- Experience with ERP systems and controlled technical documentation

- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
