Lead Project Engineer - Traffic Engineering

Job Summary

Design civil engineering projects with a focus on transportation and traffic, including roadway, drainage, and traffic signal design. Perform traffic analysis and studies, develop plans and specifications for state and municipal projects, and write technical reports. Collaborate with project managers to define scope, manage resources, and oversee quality while serving as an internal consulting resource for proposals and client presentations. Direct project deliverables, conduct site investigations, and interface with vendors to select materials. Typically manage multiple complex projects for various clients, requiring in-state and out-of-state travel up to 20% of the time. Maintain professional licensure and stay current with engineering standards and industry trends.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering field
  • 8+ years engineering experience in transportation
  • P.E. licensure
  • Driver's license with clean driving record
  • Must obtain professional licensure in the states required by the company as soon as possible
  • Minimum travel is 20% of the time
  • Must be able to travel in-state and out-of-state on occasion
  • Ability to embrace new technology and processes including learning other software programs as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge/experience of Microstation, Geopak/Inroads, AutoCAD/Civil 3D
  • Proficiency in Microstation
  • Proficiency in Visum
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Proficiency in Civil 3D
  • Knowledge of highway design standards, DOT design policies and plan preparation criteria
  • Practical Knowledge in use of Highway Capacity Manual, Roadside Design Guide, MUTCD, and AASHTO Standards
  • Ability to lead, train, and mentor others

  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Proficiency in Synchro
  • Proficiency in Deltek Vision accounting and project planning software

  • Ability to stay abreast of new engineering trends, techniques, strategies, philosophies and methods
  • Participation in professional organization(s) in the engineer's area of expertise
  • Maintains professional licensure in the states required by the company
  • Regularly analyzes specific issues on project manager's project to recommend solutions that are efficient and cost effective
  • Meets with vendors of equipment on a technical basis with project managers and project teams as directed
  • Selects appropriate materials and equipment for the project application, accounting for desired performance, costs, and operation and maintenance considerations
  • Manages engineering work and interfaces with other disciplines as needed
  • Typically handles multiple projects for multiple clients simultaneously
  • Visits clients and job sites as needed to support project(s) and business development needs
  • Serves as consultant on transportation projects during construction phase
  • Typically works with complex, difficult projects that could also be large in focus and complexity
