Job Summary
Lead complex analytical work, conduct internal performance and financial audits, and manage major contracts for the Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation. Direct contractor and consultant efforts while overseeing project teams to ensure accurate, confidential evaluations of judicial candidates. Prepare reports for the Governor's office, liaise with external stakeholders, and support the implementation of unique projects with broad policy implications. Monitor project budgets, respond to inquiries, and make policy recommendations to senior management. Requires minimal direction, strong judgment, and the ability to manage multiple workflows independently. Full-time role with up to four days of remote work, travel to Los Angeles and San Francisco, and seven annual Saturday meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a field that develops skills related to essential duties
- Juris Doctorate or master's degree in a relevant field
- Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience
- At least two (2) years at the advanced journey level
- Experience in research, data collection and evaluation
- Experience in performance or financial auditing
- Experience in business process re-engineering
- Experience in a public sector, legal or nonprofit environment
- Ability to receive and relay detailed information through verbal and written communication
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, by telephone, computer, and in writing

- Ability to conduct internal performance and financial audits pursuant to a performance and financial audit plan to ensure that the State Bar's core functions are performed efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with all governing mandates
- Ability to direct work of contractors and consultants, ensuring that contract requirements are followed and in accordance with State Bar policies
- Ability to respond to internal and external inquiries about the State Bar's programs, data collection and analysis, continuous improvement, and internal audit efforts
- Ability to oversee the implementation of special projects with broad policy implications
- Ability to provide staff support as assigned to the Board of Trustees, and State Bar committees, commissions, and working groups
- Ability to monitor project budgets and make recommendations on budget expenditures
- Ability to serve in a lead capacity over project teams or may supervise individual professional, technical, and support staff
- Ability to ensure confidentiality, appropriate, and timely evaluations
- Ability to support a 38-member volunteer commission
- Ability to review and edit reports to the Governor's office
- Ability to act as lead staff to the Review Committee on Juridical Nominees Evaluation (RJNE)
- Ability to submit letters on behalf of JNE to the Commission on Judicial Appointments (COJA)
- Ability to liaise with the Governor's office and other external stakeholders
- Ability to provide logistical support for commissioner travel and investigations
- Ability to supervise and support the JNE program analyst
- Ability to lead the JNE staff and volunteers to support JNE investigative cycles
- Excellent communicator, both verbally and with precise writing, editing, and analytical skills
- Sound judgment and attention to detail, particularly related to managing confidential information
