Lead Professional, Traffic Engineer

Job Summary

Conduct traffic operation analyses and travel demand forecasting using Vissim, Synchro/SimTraffic, and HCS to evaluate alternatives for safety, access, and mobility. Develop innovative concepts for strategic intersection and corridor improvements, including design communications networks and traffic signal enhancements. Manage small to mid-level projects by overseeing cross-functional teams, monitoring scope, schedule, and budget, and ensuring compliance documentation and regulatory technical analysis. Prepare tables, figures, and technical reports to summarize impacts for public agencies and decision-makers while leading investigations on transportation corridors. Collaborate with district traffic, transit, and planning teams to deliver projects across concept development, preliminary design, and final design phases.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior traffic design experience.
  • Engineer license required.
  • Highly proficient with traffic engineering principles, practices, process, capacity and operational analysis.
  • Highly proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of transportation corridors, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills, expressing intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Ability to plan and conduct investigations on various aspects of transportation corridors, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, and relevant traffic engineering software.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • PTOE certification.
  • Project management experience.
  • Participate in professional societies and conference programs including committees, panels, papers, and presentations.
