Job Summary
Lead Production Technician role in San Angelo, TX leading a small team of Explosives Production Technicians through synthesis, mixing, drying, granulating, pressing, extrusion, and packaging of energetic materials. Responsibilities include supervising tasks, monitoring production via remote systems, enforcing explosives safety and Q-D requirements, leading safety audits and investigations, maintaining quality records and regulatory compliance, troubleshooting equipment, coordinating with engineering/quality/safety teams, and participating in process optimization and training. Requires 4–8+ years in explosives/energetics manufacturing (lead/supervisory preferred), ATF explosives handler eligibility or ability to obtain, HAZMAT and OSHA safety training, strong leadership and communication, ability to work shifts, and U.S. citizenship likely with background checks for defense-related roles.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in chemistry, process technology, manufacturing, energetic materials, or related field strongly preferred
- 4–8+ years of progressive experience in explosives/energetics manufacturing or hazardous materials processing
- Prior lead, supervisory, or mentoring experience highly desired
- ATF Explosives Handler/User Permit eligibility (or ability to obtain); thorough background check and fingerprinting required
- Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) certification
- OSHA safety training (e.g., 30-hour) and explosives-specific safety courses
- Leadership training or related supervisory experience a plus
- Strong knowledge of explosives safety principles, regulatory compliance (ATF, DOT)
- Proficiency in reading batch records, procedures, and process controls
- Experience with production equipment (mixers, dryers, presses)
- Ability to use analytical tools and basic computer systems for documentation and monitoring
- Proven ability to lead teams in high-risk environments with accountability and safety
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making under pressure
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work in controlled environments
- Citizenship/background checks and possible security clearances per defense-related role
