Job Summary
Lead preschool classroom supervision and management, implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans and daily activity calendars to support children's physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth. Oversee staff and volunteers, maintain accurate attendance and incident reports, and conduct daily health checks and hygiene supervision. Enforce positive behavioral control, manage discipline, and ensure a safe, clean environment while communicating with parents, staff, and the Director. Act as program leader during the Director's absence and respond to emergencies in accordance with the Emergency Operations Plan. Submit supply requests and participate in fundraising efforts. Maintain strict confidentiality and complete required certifications including CPR/First Aid/AED, MAT, and TB testing.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 21 years of age
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred or equivalent experience required
- core competency and course work required per the Virginia Standards for Licensed Child Day Centers
- Minimum one year experience in the group care of children
- Minimum one year experience in staff supervision
- Working knowledge of Virginia Standards for Licensed Child Day Centers
- Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 required within 30 days of hire
- Proof of a negative TB test within the last two years
- Complete and maintain required trainings to include but not limited to: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment upon hire and annually thereafter
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check, Virginia State Police background check, and Child Protective Services check
- Medication Administration (MAT) Certification within 30 days of hire
- Ability to observe children's behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
- Ability to communicate and work with assigned ages and skill levels and provide necessary instruction to preschool childcare participants
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to emergencies and those situations requiring first aid
- Physical strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of children
- Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
