Job Summary

LEAD is a peer-focused role providing outreach, direction, and support to participants with behavioral health needs. Responsibilities include organizing and facilitating peer support and community events, engaging participants who are reluctant to engage, connecting participants to needed services and scheduling appointments, transporting participants to services, advocacy, developing service plans, attending Operation Work Group and other community meetings, and building positive relationships with LEAD partners and law enforcement. The role requires empathy for individuals with complex needs, trauma-informed care, comfort with harm reduction strategies, teamwork, and willingness to work in the community including street outreach. Lived experience with behavioral health challenges and a NYS CRPA is preferred but not required. Requires a valid driver’s license, ability to be insured, and ability to pass background checks and clearances. Reports to Site Director, Dutchess County Stabilization Center; location is Poughkeepsie, NY.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience engaging individuals with complex needs, including substance use disorder, mental and physical health concerns, homelessness and trauma.
  • Comfortable working with individuals who are actively using.
  • Familiarity with harm reduction strategies.
  • Ability to work in a team and in collaboration with law enforcement.
  • Focus on person-centered and trauma-informed care.
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to conduct street outreach and work in the community outside of an office setting.
  • Lived experience with behavioral health challenges, along with strong personal awareness.
  • Driver’s license and ability to be insured; ability to pass background checks and clearances.
  • Certification as NYS Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) is preferred, but NOT required.
