Job Summary
Lead the painting crew from setup to final walkthrough, reading scopes and identifying problems before they affect the homeowner. Enforce quality control as the final set of eyes before client delivery, catching defects without homeowner or owner involvement. Manage surface prep for wood, drywall, and masonry, and handle van and materials logistics to prevent supply issues. Mentor apprentices and conduct hard conversations to maintain high standards when the owner is not present. This role requires 5+ years of professional painting experience with at least 2 years in a lead capacity, including the ability to estimate time and manage small crews. Competitive hourly base with profit sharing on completed, on-budget jobs, plus a company van and early Fridays. War Horse Painting is a faith-centered residential contractor in Coeur d'Alene focused on craftsmanship and character over size.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional painting experience
- at least 2 years in a lead or foreman capacity
- understanding of surface prep including wood, drywall, masonry, and previously painted surfaces
- ability to manage a small crew and keep them moving without standing over them every 10 minutes
- ability to read a scope of work
- ability to estimate time with reasonable accuracy
- ability to flag problems before they compound
- reliability to show up when you say you'll show up every time
- experience working somewhere where quality slipped and the candidate did not slip with it
- ability to take job quality personally in the best way
- ability to fix problems when something goes wrong on a job rather than explaining it
- ability to have a hard conversation with a crew member without it becoming a major issue
- experience working for a hands-on owner with high standards
