Job Summary
Conduct optical system design trade studies, evaluate materials and vendors, and perform detailed image quality analyses including wavefront error, MTF, and resolution. Execute component tolerancing and sensitivity analyses while documenting design specifications and tolerances. Support program design review cycles, engage in troubleshooting activities, and provide regular updates to leadership on progress and execution status. Lead efforts to re-optimize as-fabricated hardware and propose corrective actions for stray light artifacts. Work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver end-to-end technology solutions for space-based imaging systems across the UV to LWIR spectrum.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in optics or related field
- Minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience
- Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience
- In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience
- Experience using Zemax and/or Code V for optical design and analysis including both sequential (Zemax and/or Code V) or non-sequential (FRED) tools
- Knowledge or familiarity with space-based telescope systems or complex commercial imaging systems
- Participation and leadership in optical design and analysis projects
- Effective communication skills to develop, document, present, and disseminate technical materials and progress in a team environment
- Ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret Security clearance
- Active security clearance
- U.S. citizen
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with MATLAB or Python for data analysis and automation of testing procedures
- Experience with athermalization of optical systems
- Experience with STOP analysis
- Background in optical fabrication or testing metrology
- Knowledgeable in interferometry concepts, optical testing layouts, and optical measurement data analysis products
