Job Summary

Lead Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in outpatient oncology at Northwestern Medicine. The role provides clinical oversight for early-phase oncology patients, manages high-acuity and protocol-driven care, coordinates daily APP staffing and training, and supports fellows and APP performance. Responsibilities include developing and coordinating APP training, acting as a leadership liaison, contributing to quality metrics and research within clinical trials, and delivering advanced patient care with strong communication and collaboration across physicians, leadership, and staff. Schedule features 4-10 hour days or 5-8 hour days on weekdays with one work-from-home day after orientation; no nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call obligations. Requires a Master’s degree (nursing or PA), Illinois RN/APRN or PA licensure, APRN certification or PA certification, BLS, oncology experience, leadership/mentorship experience, and ability to navigate clinical complexity and ambiguity.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited school/college of nursing OR master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois
  • Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois OR Physician Assistant license in Illinois
  • APRN certification as approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board OR Physician Assistant certification
  • Privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO)
  • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation – BLS, issued by the American Heart Association
  • Minimum of 2 years of oncology experience
  • Interest in investigational therapies
  • Demonstrated leadership or preceptor/mentorship experience
  • Ability to manage complexity and ambiguity
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise and expanded knowledge through patient care activities which may include diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems
  • Experience with being responsible for health outcomes of an assigned patient population
