Job Summary
Lead Network Engineer at Salesforce overseeing Backbone Engineering within the global Salesforce Network. Responsibilities include acting as liaison with the vendor sourcing team, project managing new capacity installs with sourcing and field engineering, updating the network and datastores for capacity additions/decommissions, collaborating on new network designs, and developing automation via Python and Ansible for network configuration. The role involves coordinating with connectivity partners and customer engagement teams for troubleshooting, supporting BGP peering relationship management and backbone router migrations/decoms, and managing network design lifecycles with documentation and approvals. Requires experience with Cisco and Juniper carrier-class routers, Nexus switches, routing protocols (BGP, IS-IS), WDM technologies, Unix/Linux, and network automation tooling (Git, Ansible, Python). A related technical degree is required. Strong knowledge of AI and ML concepts is desirable. The role sits within a global, dynamic Infrastructure Strategy and Data Center Operations team that builds and maintains the Backbone network through capacity planning and peering strategies, enabling Salesforce customers to access applications and data.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years in production network environments
- Experience with Cisco and Juniper carrier-class routers (ex: ASR9K, CRS, MX960, PTX, MX2K)
- Experience with Cisco Nexus-based switches
- Knowledge of routing protocols such as BGP and IS-IS
- Fundamental understanding of WDM technologies
- Strong Python coding skills
- Good understanding of Unix/Linux-based operating systems
- Experience developing and maintaining network automation tools (e.g. Ansible)
- Experience with Git or other version control systems
- Related technical degree required
- Experience managing co-located infrastructure (preferred)
- Experience with DWDM platforms (preferred)
- Experience with MACSec encryption (preferred)
- Hands-on with production hardware lifecycle management (preferred)
- Experience with Puppet, Terraform, Containers, and/or Kubernetes (preferred)
- Previous experience with Salesforce core application (preferred)
- AI-related awareness (preferred)
