Job Summary
Lead Monitor I at VOALA oversees and mentors Shelter Monitors to ensure safety and security of program premises, participants, and staff. Responsibilities include arranging shifts, training staff in safety and security procedures, leading security operations at the shelter, performing entrance and bag screening, patrolling the facility, maintaining shelter safety, producing incident reports, and coordinating with clinical/case management as needed. Driving tasks are included for licensed monitors. This role emphasizes on-site supervision, adherence to safety protocols, asset protection, and acting as a role model for participants, with mandated reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to pass fingerprint clearance and background check
- Ability to perform under emotional stress when dealing with challenging clients
- One year of proven college coursework, or completion of Careers for a Cause (C4C) or other homeless training course with a certificate (can substitute for experience)
- Possession of a California driver’s license preferred (not strictly required) and clean driving record (preferred)
- Experience in general security, social services/human services, and/or customer service (one year)
- willingness to complete VOALA safety training within 30 days of hire
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and schedule monitors
- Strong observational and incident reporting skills
- Ability to transport program participants and manage vehicle operations when licensed
- Knowledge of safety practices, shelter operations, and asset protection
- Mandated Reporter status in accordance with service provision requirements
