Job Summary
Assign shifts and supervise Monitors providing safety for program clients, visitors, and employees in a shelter with over 100 residents. Conduct bag and person screenings at the entrance, patrol premises to detect intrusions, and perform room checks while reporting rule violations. Train staff on security procedures, maintain incident logs, and act as a role model for participants. Transport individuals to medical or work sites if licensed, manage vehicle maintenance, and ensure all common areas remain clean and disinfected.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
- Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts dealing with difficult, uncooperative, and potentially aggressive clients
- One year of proven college coursework, or completion of Careers for a Cause (C4C) or other homeless training course with a certificate
- Complete Careers for a Cause (C4C) within 60 days of hire
- Within 30 days of hire, must successfully complete VOALA safety training
- 1 year of related experience in a mental health or substance abuse treatment setting, or other group residential program
- One year in the general security field, and/or social services / human services, and/or customer service experience
- Services for this position must be provided on-site
- As a service provider to the underprivileged and vulnerable in our community, all employees are considered Mandated Reporters, and must report any instance of physical or sexual abuse to proper authorities
Desired Qualifications
- Driving ability
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current California driver's license and clean driving record, demonstrated Knowledge of CA driving laws
- Experience in a group residential setting
- Experience serving the homeless
- Database familiarity
- Clean driving record to be insurable by VOALA insurance
