Job Summary
Perform complex laboratory procedures and handle all specimen processing tasks assigned to the department. Assist the supervisor by monitoring workflow, distributing work assignments, scheduling staff, and training personnel on policies, procedures, and equipment. Lead project improvements within the department while reviewing QA/QC records and reporting problems to management. Maintain equipment operation, reagent usage, and test procedure performance through advanced troubleshooting and incident reporting. Review and release test results, reporting critical findings to physicians per SOP.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences with the addition of at least 1 year of laboratory experience/training/training course
- Six or more years of equivalent experience (high complexity molecular testing) preferred
- Previous applied experience with molecular diagnostic testing required
- NGS strongly preferred
- Advanced understanding of general laboratory techniques with emphasis on department specific techniques
- Possesses appropriate computer skills to accomplish tasks
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards
- Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual
- Good visual acuity, including color perception required for certain departments
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Tuesday - Saturday, 3:00pm - 11:30pm shift
- starting as a 12:00pm - 8:30pm shift for an undetermined period of time
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology from an accredited college or university preferred
- ASCP MB License preferred
